ABOUT
BEHIND THE LENS, PENCIL & BRUSH
My work is inspired by color, is a bit technical, and is composed to make the observer feel something uniquely special.
I particularly enjoy the use of a myriad of polychrome pencils, since it allows me creative license with a variety of colors, as well as the ability to make changes as I work through to a finished product.
I began creating images in the early 1990's, first with graphite pencil drawings, then on to colored pencils, acrylics, oils, watercolors and eventually photography.
I prefer the use of 15x20in 100% cotton stock paper in my creations, since it gives the subject remarkable depth regardless of the medium.
I believe in exploring a diverse range of subjects from landscapes to portraits, which gives me the freedom to express a multitude of thoughts and moods.
I am not a trained artist, so I openly experiment with techniques some may consider bold. Through my creations, my hope is that the observer never feels indifferent to the piece. Be it colorful or completely void of color, I believe it is contrast that makes a piece come alive. For me, it is all or nothing.
I began creating art as a means to release creative energy, as well as for my own personal consumption. But as my work evolved, I felt the timing was right to share my expressions with all who were willing to experience it.
My art is personal and I take my work seriously. I greatly appreciate those who take the time to view this site and are willing to observe, critique, and hopefully enjoy.
